Cloud Computing

1.  I have attached two different documents for this Cloud Computing assignment.  The first one is an activity that the students do to help them learn the different parts of the cell.  They really like it and it makes them think.  I really like it too, except when I can not read what they have written.  Doing this assignment with cloud computing would make it easier to read and I could send it back with comments.  The second link is an essay test that I give the students.  Again I think it would be much easier to correct & return the test back to them in this digital format.  (Thinking less paper lighter bag to carry home with work to correct.)
2.  Having all my assignments accessible in the "clouds" would be great.  It would allow some to work ahead, when allowed, and to turn work in on line reducing paper.  One down side to using this is that there are still many students who do not have the Internet or a computer at home.  This type of format would make it hard for them.  But I could make some paper copies.  It is finding the balance of which students will be using technology for/in school and those that may not.

  1. I love the thought of not having to decipher messy handwriting. This is a great way to use the cloud! I also commented on your Cell activity in Google Docs. Nice work, Christine.

  2. I agree on the 'not all students having access'--in addition to those who have lost privileges due to other things they have done/not done relating to the computer/school. I don't want to get into the 'well my mom/dad say that I can't do this on the computer because I...and I'm grounded from it for x weeks'--sometimes I don't want to know, quite honestly. Yes, having some paper copies would help, but the drama seekers would make the drama occur regardless...rather than just taking the paper and doing the assignment in peace, I think! ;)
That being said, reducing the copying and paper costs would be nice...it's just the 'new excuses' I'm not up for (not 'my dog ate my paper' but 'we couldn't access the 'net because of...' now)

  3. You've explored some benefits that make me feel excited for this school year and starting to use google docs with kids. Let me know if you need assistance or just want to bounce some ideas around. Also, remember that A.S.K. meets 3 days a week in the IMC and those students would have access to a computer for an assignment like this so I think CH is able to support students without a computer at home. If we think they need additional access, I'd love to discuss options to further support students lacking computers... in BILT maybe?
